Here is a link to a video of one of the funnel clouds that showed up last night.
Funnel Cloud Over Churchill Downs | Videos | WDRB
Chuchhill Downs is quite a ways away from us but we had several pass right over us and in the neighborhoods surrounding. It was so crazy! We were helping some people move into the apartments and it was just partly cloudy, once we were done and walking back to our apartment (going to get ready to play volleyball) I heard the sirens go off in the distance but didn't think much of it. The news had reported that some sirens were going off for no reason so I just thought it was that. We went back outside ready to play volleyball and these dark clouds just started rolling in and the sirens started to go off again. We all started playing since the clouds were still pretty far in the distance but they eventually caught up with us and a lot of people started coming outside and told us that tornadoes were touching down near down town Louisville and that it was heading our way. It started to rain just as we were walking back and it got pretty windy so I'm glad we didn't stay out too much longer. We turned on the T.V. when we got back inside and every channel we get with our antenna was taken over by the severe storm warning news cast. We watched anxiously as the meteorologists explained that they had never seen anything like this before, as storm after storm is rolling in with strong rotations and tornadoes dropping down (thankfully the majority didn't stay on the ground for very long). We went outside a few times and one of the last times we went out was the weirdest. There was another storm rolling in right towards us so we wanted to just check it out before we went inside to hide and there were think black clouds coming in and the air felt humid and heavy, the weirdest thing is that about 10 minutes ago the wind had been howling and the rain was pouring and it was dead quiet outside...no wind and just sprinkling rain was all. It was a little creepy. They eventually let the warnings expire and the tornadoes seemed to have stopped. It was weird and I was pretty terrified because we are on the top floor of our building and they tell you to get to the lowest, innermost part of any building your in, they recommend the bathroom. There doesn't seem to be any damage in our apartment complex but we haven't been outside yet today but I'm pretty sure around us isn't too bad. I'm sure that won't be our last tornado scare while living here!
